Rasa Bea

Last night Rasa was standing in the kitchen peeling a little clementine while balancing on her tippy toes. She told me today at lunch the teachers were franticly peeling all of the hot lunch kids oranges because "they were hard to peel and the teachers kept saying if the kids peel them they'll spend their whole lunch peeling the orange and not have time to eat and then they'll be hungry".

I said, "It sounds to me like those teachers care an awful lot about you kids"

Rasa smiled and said, "yeah, they're teaching us to be grown ups"

This made my heart sad because it's actually true despite my efforts to keep them kids the world is kind of against you by always pushing forward too far into the future you can't hold on to today for even a second.

I looked at her standing there looking so grown up. I could picture her at 14 looking just exactly as she was standing there only bigger.

I said, "But don't grow up too fast, okay? It's REALLY special being a kid"

Rasa, "I already know that………plus, I want the moon to stay special"

The things they say........

Rasa while eating dinner: Momma it's good to fill our tummies with good food?

Me: Yes, it will make you grow big and strong (how generic, I know).

Rasa: I don't want to grow any bigger. I wanna stay little forever!! (smart girl)

Me: I think the Easter Bunny will probably hide the eggs in the house this year because there's so much snow out in our yard.

Adia: He can't come in here! He'll leave those little poops everywhere!!

the things they say....

After eating a bowl of vanilla ice cream Rasa yells, "Mommy and Daddy come here. I need more gorilla ice cream!"

While eating dinner the girls had their plates with food and I was eating red pepper hummus. Adia asked, "Can I have some of that Pocahontas?"

We bundled up and set out for a walk this afternoon and while walking I asked the girls where they wanted to go. Adia suggested walking to the freeway bridge. I said, "Oh I don't know. It's pretty far" to which she replied, "It's ok Momma! One step at a time!"

the things they say.....

Last night when we put the girls in their beds Adia says, "I love you Momma, can I help with the dishes and laundry tomorrow?!" I replied with, "Sure! As long as you go right to sleep".
Rasa, "I love you too Momma. Can I help with the laundry tomorrow too?"

I never thought of bribing the girls with chores to get them to go to sleep. I wonder how long the excitement of it all will last? ;)

the things they say......

Rasa had a terrible stomach flu that had her vomiting non stop for twelve hours and landed her in the ER.

Me: Rasa do you wanna call Nana and tell her how much better you are feeling?

Rasa: I don't wanna talk right now. Just send her a text.

After the girls first day of Preschool we were walking out of school and to the car.

Me: Wasn't that fun?! Did you have a good time?

Adia: It wasn't REALLY cool but it was kinda cool.

the things they say.....adia edition

We were talking about Cinderella coming out on DVD.
Adia says, "I'm going to pick Cinderella movie out and watch it here and IT'S GOING TO BE SO EXCITING!!!"

Lucy had a small accident on the floor and as I was spraying it up with a bottle of floor cleaner Adia says, "Oh Momma that is SO cool! I want a pink one of those (spray bottles) so I can clean up pee too!"

My Mom offered Adia a slice of apple. Adia says, "No way I'm taking a bite of that stupid apple"

We spent an hour online looking at halloween costumes when FINALLY both girls had decided what they wanted to be.
Adia to Royce, "Rasa's gonna be a hedgehog for halloween and I'm gonna be A MANGO!!!!"
Royce, "A mango?"
Adia, "NO! A mango! You know, it's pink with the wings and it goes like this (her jumping around flapping her arms)"
Royce, "OH! A flamingo!"

the things they say....

Drama Queen in training.....

I left the girls at my parents for a couple hours today so I could get my hair updated ;) When I got back and put them in the car Adia announced she was crying for me when I was gone:

Adia: I was crying for lu (you) momma

Me: You were crying for me? Why were you crying for me?

Adia: I was sitting on the stairs, crying, because I looked up at the picture of you on the wall. The picture from when you were growing up. And I was crying for lu.

Oh lord.

the things they say....

After Adia's nap (Rasa was still asleep) she came out and asked if she could watch Baby Signing Time. She handed me the dvd and I told her it was way to scratched up for it to work to which she replied, "Lets just find a man to fix it for us!".

Gasp

Me, "WHAT?! Why would we need a man to fix it for us?!"

About five minutes later, after I had regained consciousness I told Adia to repeat after me, "women make the world go round."

She giggled and said, "Momma, what's that all about?!"

Oh lord help me.

The things they say...

Last night in the tub:
Me: Who's getting teeth brushed first?
Adia: Rasa!
Rasa: Not me DUDE!

Today the girls were climbing in and out of the car through the window that was down and I told them to stop and that I didn't want them playing in the car.
Rasa: WHY?!
Me: Because I don't want you messing with all of the lights and buttons!
Rasa: You don't understand us mom. It's okay. It's not your fault

???!!!!! Seriously......

We were leaving the community pool after a fun time with a handful of other kids.
Me: that was fun! Those kids were fun too
Rasa: No, I don't like kids
Me: What do you mean? You seemed to have fun with those kids. You have friends and they are also kids. You're a kid, they're just like you.
Rasa: No. They are not like me. They scare me.

the things they say...

Yesterday the girls were tackling me in the front yard...over and over and over! The two of them are strong enough to take me down and after they would, they'd tell me to "try and get up momma". I'd try only to have them pounce on me and take me out again. I was laying on the ground both girls sitting on top of me and Adia hops up and says, "Rasa come on! We gotta get a rope!" Rasa replies, "Yeah we gotta get a rope. Go get it!". I look up at Rasa and ask, "What do you need a rope for??" to which she replies, "We gotta tie you up!".

Huh?! What happens in a year when together I can't fight them off of me and they do in fact tie me up?!

the things they say...

We stopped at this tiny little old fashioned ice cream shoppe down the street from our house for a surprise treat for the girls. After we were finished Royce ran into the chinese food place next door to grab a take out menu. The girls sat on the table outside and peered into the window. The restaurant still had a little christmas tree up and a nativity scene (seriously people! It's JUNE!). Both girls were looking closely at it with their faces pressed against the window.

Rasa: Whoa there's a scary monster!

Adia: Oh a scary monster?!

Rasa: Yeah! And keeps trying to LOOK AT THE BABY!!!

the things they say...

We were on a stroller walk and on the way back about a half a mile from our house the girls asked to get out and walk. They love holding hands and walking next to each other which I of course think it the CUTEST THING EVER especially because they do it simply because they like to. As they were walking I was behind them pushing the stroller and I hear the following:

Adia: Rasa, can dogs take cat naps?
Rasa: Bahahahahahahaha NOOOO!!!
Adia: bahahahahahahaha

The things they say...

As my family is sitting at a quant little cafe on the patio for desert Saturday night Rasa tells Royce she needs to go to the bathroom. I had just brought her to the bathroom so I asked her if she could hold it for a few minutes because we're going to be leaving and going home. She ignored me and got distracted with something else. Five minutes later she stands up on her chair and yells, "Mommy! I have to go to the bathroom! I have to POOP and pee!!" The packed table at the other end full of kidless 20 somethings seemed shocked and amused at the same time.

Last night we put the girls to bed and they were having a hard time settling down. Royce and my bedroom door faces the girls so when we are in bed watching a movie we can look over and see Adia in her bed. She was talking NON-STOP and we were trying to ignore her so she would just go to bed. She was singing, laughing, talking in different voices, jumping on the bed and repeating to me over and over that she couldn't sleep.

I was more amused than frustrated but it was nearly 11 pm so I finally said:
"Adia it's time to sleep! I'm starting to get mad now".

Adia askes, "Is Papa getting mad too?"

Royce replies, "Yes, Adia I'm starting to get mad too".

Adia says, "Well, I'm mad too! I'm getting MAD!"

Then softly and quietly I hear Rasa's voice say, "yep me too"

Royce and I giggle and then hear Adia say, "This is getting ridiculous! It's ridiculous!"

m&m cannibalism?

The girls invaded my bed early this morning as I was laying watching the news. The crawled up, snuggled in and watched for a few minutes with me. An M&M commercial came on with the animated talking M&M characters and this convo followed:

Adia: "Look m&m's!!! We can't eat those though"

Rasa: "No, we can't cuz we eat too much candy"

Adia: "No Rasa we can't eat those they have eyes!"

Rasa: "Oh yeah they do have eyes"

Ultimate confusion followed by a moment of silence.

The things they say.....

Rasa: I need to eat something.

Me: Well, eat your supper that's sitting on your plate over there.

Rasa: Hmmm I think I will eat something else besides my supper please.

Me: No, you will eat your supper.

Rasa: Um no I'm not hungry.

The things they say...

I was getting Adia ready for bed last night and she was starring at me for a while looking like she was concentrating and I was waiting for some sweet words to come out of her mouth telling me (like she usually does) that I am beautiful or that she loves me.
Adia: Momma I don't like you're hair
Me: What?
Adia with a mean girl attitude: I...do...not...like...your...hair. I like Papa's hair.
Me: Wow
On a side note I felt like I was actually have a REALLY GOOD hair day for a change!

Rasa and I were sitting on the couch this weekend and I called Lucy up to snuggle with me. Lucy started chewing on her back foot.
Rasa: Ahahahahahahahahahaha
Me: What's so funny?
Rasa: Look at Lucy! She's kinda like eating herself!!

Tonight while reading "who do you love"

Royce: I love you Adia and Rasa

Adia: I love you papa. Papa, Papa, Happy Valentine's Day!!

Royce: Oh thank you, Adia

Adia: Now say Happy Valentine's Day to me, Papa

Royce: Happy Valentine's Day

Adia: Oh thank you!

I don't recall the context but somehow Royce called Rasa a princess

Rasa: I'M NOT A PRINCESS!

Royce: Yes you are, you're my princess

Rasa: NO I'm NOT!

Me (knowing Rasa hates being called a princess): No, Rasa's not a princess, she's a big girl

Rasa (shouting at Royce with a stern look): I am a big girl! Big girls take nappy's and pee on the potty and brush their teeth!!!

the things they say...

Rasa: I like the baby in toy story. No, it's not a baby. I don't know what it is. Maybe Papa will know.

Me: Oh, maybe Papa will know, huh.

Rasa: Yeah, Papa knows everything. My Daddy's at work. My Papa goes to work everyday but I don't go to work cuz I'm a little girl.
I'm a big girl.

Adia: Momma you have boobies

Me: Yep and so do you, everyone has boobies.

Adia: But my boobies don't have milk. Momma your boobies don't have any milk anymore.

Me: No you won't have milk until you are very old and have babies.

Adia: I don't have milk because I'm a little girl.

The things they say...

This morning Royce was leaving for work.

Rasa: Where WE going, Momma?

Me: Ah I don't know, where are we going?

Rasa: Where we going??

Me looking at Royce smirking: We're going to hell in a hand basket, what do you think about that?

Rasa: I want to go there. I want to go there now!

Last night after I brushed the girls teeth I spotted some new molars in both of their mouths. I got excited and made it a big deal that they were growing new teeth, talking about how we're going to the dentist and how much fun it's going to be. They were jumping up and down excited to show Royce their new teeth.

Adia: Papa! Papa! I got new teeth!!

Royce: Oh wow look at all of those teeth!

Adia: I got new teeth from the grocery store and put them in my mouth!

the things they say...

Yesterday we were at my parents house and my Mom made the girls some scrambled eggs. My Dad was sitting next to Adia at the table and he asked, "do you know where eggs come from?" Adia sat there for a second and said, "Yes! Eggs come from the grocery store! Target!"

Tonight the girls and I decided to go for a walk after the sun set. We were walking down the street and Rasa asked, "Where is Gramma Sue?" I said, "What do you mean?" She replied, "Where is Gramma Sue? Is she at home?" I said, "Oh yes she's at home". Rasa said, "I like Gramma Sue. I like Nana too. I like Nana's hair the best!"
