ironically thankful......

I was laughing to myself as I sent Royce and my Mom and text earlier today saying I was freezing, the house is cold, so there I was with my snow pants on standing in front of the oven with the door open and the heat set to a comfortable 425. The heat from the oven was causing the overhead vent to drop water on my head and it made me giggle.

Our second car is on it's last leg, it smokes and burns something (who knows what) as I drive it down the road. This is the car that Royce smashed into our neighbor's car a year ago so the front end of it is smashed and held together with hood pins. We're buying another one soon and that's fine. I'm not excited about that or bewildered.

The girls are half naked running through the house in their underwear, happy as they have ever been, playing. They don't mind a cold house. They just move and warm right up.

The funny this is....I'm extremely content. More so than I have been in a very long time. I don't want to be anywhere else. I like our life. It works for us. We have very few worries.

I'm not a Pollyanna who is always looking at the bright side of things. It's just, there is only a bright side to where we're at and I'm thankful for all of it.

cold days, creative play....

It is FREEZING outside (and inside!) this week! We're working with below zero temps and Arctic like windchill's! We are all holed up inside and as tempting as turing the tv on is I like to take advantage of the fact that small kids don't have capacity to get bored. They will find ways to play and have fun.

I've been cooking, doing laundry and washing dishes (anytime my fingers feel cold!) to keep the house warmer. This little old house gets cold and the only way to stay really warm is to dress warm, move a lot and cook as much as possible! Still even cooler inside it's bright and the light floods in giving us the illusion it's a beautiful day out there.

The girls spend hours upon hours in their play kitchen each week. They come up with new ways to play with it everyday and I do enjoy listening in and watching them play. Plus the colors and textures are like eye candy to the photographer in me!

everyday things....

the things they play....

Last night after dinner the girls were doing their usual routine of running laps around the house screaming and laughing when they both stopped in the middle of the living room. Royce asked the girls what they were doing when each girl have her undies pulled down exposing each of their little bums. Rasa told him they were playing the booty shake.
Each girl would stand at either end of the living room, run backwards until they made contact with each other booty to booty, laugh and scream and then do it over again, and again, and again, and again.
Apparently that folks, is the booty shaker.

the things they say....

After eating a bowl of vanilla ice cream Rasa yells, "Mommy and Daddy come here. I need more gorilla ice cream!"

While eating dinner the girls had their plates with food and I was eating red pepper hummus. Adia asked, "Can I have some of that Pocahontas?"

We bundled up and set out for a walk this afternoon and while walking I asked the girls where they wanted to go. Adia suggested walking to the freeway bridge. I said, "Oh I don't know. It's pretty far" to which she replied, "It's ok Momma! One step at a time!"

The things they play......

Yesterday afternoon the girls were running around the living room playing with their little wooden dollies I made them. Both of them began to shove the little dolls down into their shirts and laugh.

Adia screams, "Look I have own boobies!"
Rasa agrees, "We have our own boobies! Now we can feed our babies!!!"

Who I am (according to Mom) Adia Carol age 4

Adia Carol

You love puzzles the best. You can pull a new puzzle out of a box and put it together immediately. You get in a zone and it feeds your brain. It makes me think you are mathematical. You like the idea of baby dolls but you're not really into them. You want me to make them look pretty and then you toss them aside. You've always been into figuring out how things work and how to get into things I'd never think your tiny hands would be able to do! I like that about you because it's different from me.

You sleep in every morning. After you wake up you spend a good half an hour alone in your room and come out with a grand entrance (usually with your hands in your mouth acting cute and shy) with elaborate outfits on. Skirts, leggings, sparkly shirts, socks and shoes, even hair accessories. You love pretty! You like to snuggle when you're tired but otherwise don't like to be stopped from whatever busy work you've gotten yourself into.

You play extremely well with Rasa. You are patient and giving. She bosses you around and you are graceful. She wants your toys and you give them to her. You also get bored easily and like to egg her on. Dangling toys in front of her face and then running off with them. It's not because you are mean. It's because you live for a thrill. I get that, I can even relate to it but be nice to Rasa. She will be a better friend to you throughout your life than any other person in this world.

You care about fairness. When we are with other kids you're always looking out for them too. When you hear a baby cry in a store or a restaurant you shout out that he's hungry or maybe he needs a nap. When you get a treat you expect everyone in the room to get one too. I love this. I think social justice is important too ;)

You are the most fun kid I've ever met in my life. You're hilarious. You make jokes, you jump and laugh, you giggle all day. I have to make myself be silly with you because you NEED it and actually you've taught me something. RELAX! Life is fun. Don't forget it, Momma!

You have a fiery temper like me. You're quick to scream "hey whattya think your doin?!" Sometimes when I worry about this temper I think of a little snot nosed boy on the playground that will likely try to push you around in kindergarten and it relieves me because I know you will kick his little butt and he will learn to respect girls. You go girl!

There is no doubt in my mind you will always know what you want and you will get it. This has been true for you since the day you were born. You give me a run for my money, you're spirited, you're stubborn, you're bossy to me but I respect those things about you too and hopefully, someday soon, I will learn to channel those characteristics in a positive direction. It's ok to be assertive but it's not ok to be aggressive. Respect will always get you further in your quest. Remember that.

Go get 'em Adia! I will always tell you you're my bright star and you'll likely roll your eyes at me but you are. You always will be.

Who I am (according to Mom) Rasa Bea age 4

I decided to start a new tradition each year of blogging who you are to me and what you're into each year.

Rasa Bea

You love babies. Black babies are your favorite toys. I almost never see you without a baby in your arms. You are tender to her and keep her warm, kiss her head and care for her. You hold her hands and make her stand and get excited to push her around in your shopping cart or stroller.

You wake up each morning early and watch Daddy get ready for work. I find out you on the couch after he leaves, sitting in your underwear letting me know Daddy's at work but that he'll be home for supper. You want to snuggle and touch and be touched. You want me to sit next to you. The first thing you put on every morning is a princess dress (usually coupled with plastic disney princess high heels). I tell you that you are so beautiful and you smile and say Yes.

You play well with Adia and you spend a lot of time imitating life; cooking in your kitchen, having tea parties, grocery shopping and being silly. You like Adia to be your puppy and you feed her treats and walk her around the house. You are a proud Momma and a proud puppy owner.

I ask you who your favorite person in the world is and you are too afraid to say anyone but me because you care about feelings. I know, and I'm ok with it, you love your daddy with all of your heart, and you love me too.

You like me to see everything you do. "Hey Momma look at me" as you run across the room and do a spin. "did you see that Momma!!" I see you. I know you can run and dance and jump faster and higher and with more grace than olympic champions. You are and will always be the best to me....even when you aren't your best. And I will always be your biggest fan because underneath it all I know what you're made of and I always will.

You're a little lady,so polite and so caring. You want to please everyone and you liked to be praised. You don't like making mistakes but you need to. It's ok to say the wrong color, or not know how to do things perfectly. Being imperfect is more fun, trust me, I know. It's not ok to not try. If you try and you fail it's ok. Whats' even better is to try and fail and then try again, and again, and again. In the same respect sometimes you will fail and there's nothing you can do about it. No worries, learn to walk away with pride that you gave it everything you could and move on.

I look at you and see a beautiful, sensitive and thoughtful girl who will always do well in her life. You will.

Happy New Year

Rewind to New Years Eve!
We went up to our old neighborhood to spend New Years Eve with our friends and old neighbors. We had quite a festive New Years Eve last year and wanted to do it again this year. Actually it's funny because probably 8-10 years ago Patrick, Karley, Royce and I spent New Years Eve together before having kids!

The girls were excited to see Jill, Taylor, Skip and The Dellis Family. We haven't seen anyone since Halloween. We were supposed to have a Christmas Party but we got hit with the flu so we did this instead and we are so glad it worked out.

The little girls had a lot of fun and even stayed up until midnight to ring in the New Year.

We brought a cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday to the girls. They get so embarrassed when they're sang to! hahahaha!

We all had a great time and I hope we can continue this New Year's tradition for years to come.

As per usual I left my camera at home....I'm starting to think I really need to at least bring a body in my purse because I always regret not having any pictures! Jill took this one of the girls with her phone :)

Last day of age 3!

Rasa & Adia 7 days old right before we brought them home from the hospital:
I've posted this before but I share in Nancy Tilman's sentiment so much it seemed fitting for tonight, the last night of age 3!

"I wanted you more than you will ever know,
so I sent love to follow wherever you go.
It's as high as you wish it. It's as quick as an elf.
You'll never outgrow it.....it stretches itself!
So climb any mountain.....
climb up to the sky!
My love will find you.
My love can fly!
Make a big splash! Go out on a limb!
My love will find you. My love can swim!
It never gets lost, never fades, never ends...
if you're working...
or playing...
or sitting with friends.
You can dance 'til you're dizzy...
paint 'till you're blue...
There's no place, not one, that my love can't find you.

And if someday you're lonely, or someday you're sad,
or you strike out at baseball, or think you've been bad...
just lift up your face, feel the wind in your hair.
That's me, my sweet baby, my love is right there.
In the green of the grass...in the smell of the sea...
in the clouds floating by...at the top of the tree...in the sound crickets make at the end of the day...

"You are loved. You are loved. You are loved," they all say.

My love is so high, and so wide and so deep, it's always right there, even when you're asleep.
So hold your head high and don't be afraid to march to the front of your own parade.
If you're still my small babe or you're all the way grown,
my promise to you is you're never alone.
You are my angel, my darling, my star...
and my love will find you, wherever you are.

You are loved."

When we drove home from the hospital with the girls I remember Royce passing cars on the freeway and I looked inside to see strangers along the way and I thought to myself, "wow! they have no idea what just happened! My babies we born and the world will never be the same!"

Love you more than you'll ever know, Rasa and Adia. Your birth was the single most profound and defining moment of my life and although it may sound cliche you really are my heart walking outside of my body.
