New do's!

After we made our weekly library trip on Tuesday I noticed a Kid's Cut's across the street. Rasa's bangs have gotten longer and in her eyes so I asked her if she wanted to get a hair cut and to my surprise she said yes! We get in there and I'm looking at Adia's hair that hasn't been trimmed up for a while and decided to give her a cut too. The girls did really well and were a little nervous as we walked in. Adia says right away, "I don't want to go to the doctor!" lol! I had to reassure here that it was not a clinic!

I got Adia's hair cut a little shorter but in the same style I had done a few months back.  I love it! Rasa got her bags trimmed and still something didn't look right. I couldn't figure out what it was but her hair just wasn't working for her.

Today my Mom and I brought the girls back and had Rasa's cut the same as Adia's. Walaa! I loved it, it's perfect for her. I was worried all of the curls would disappear but after it was cut they popped out of no where.

I snapped these pics right after nap and Rasa had pulled her ponies out so it looks a little wild but I think it's going to work great for her :)

The things they say.....

Rasa: I need to eat something.

Me: Well, eat your supper that's sitting on your plate over there.

Rasa: Hmmm I think I will eat something else besides my supper please.

Me: No, you will eat your supper.

Rasa: Um no I'm not hungry.

The things they say...

I was getting Adia ready for bed last night and she was starring at me for a while looking like she was concentrating and I was waiting for some sweet words to come out of her mouth telling me (like she usually does) that I am beautiful or that she loves me.
Adia: Momma I don't like you're hair
Me: What?
Adia with a mean girl attitude: I...do...not...like...your...hair. I like Papa's hair.
Me: Wow
On a side note I felt like I was actually have a REALLY GOOD hair day for a change!

Rasa and I were sitting on the couch this weekend and I called Lucy up to snuggle with me. Lucy started chewing on her back foot.
Rasa: Ahahahahahahahahahaha
Me: What's so funny?
Rasa: Look at Lucy! She's kinda like eating herself!!

Everyday Things

another happy weekend

We turned off the furnace because we tend to do that every chance we get in the spring and all four of us ended up in one bed last night under three quilts snuggled up to keep warm! This morning I caved and turned the heat back on and I'm sitting under some fleece blankets on the couch with my new lantern candle lighting up the dark living room. What a gloomy, cold, rainy day! I have Strawberry Shortcake on the tv because it's bright and cheery and on a day like this I can use all the help I can get!
The girls are wild running circles around the house while they chow down breakfast in their hands!

We had a lovely weekend. We spent Friday night with one of my best friends and her boyfriend. Our fire was wonderful and we stayed up way too late visiting, remembering when we were young and even talking about Royce and my wedding (Amy was one of my bridesmaids). It was really fun.

Saturday I napped for hours and everyone else almost as long! We woke up late for our Easter egg hunt and had to scramble to get up to Blaine! It was a beautiful sunny day and warm, in the 70's. We had a wonderful time. Patrick and Karley grilled dinner for everyone and we had an early fire. Adia was out of sorts right away when she saw the old house and initially Karley distracted her and encouraged her to play with Gabby which worked for a few hours until Adia started begging and pleading to go home. She's getting used to living away but I know she misses The Dellis' and Jill and the puppies. I think having my parents away for such a long time only added to her feeling like her world was just too different. She will get better, I know she will. Plus now that my parents are back and we spend more time up there again she will see that she's not losing anything.

Yesterday my parents came for lunch and we spent some time visiting and hanging out in the yard. I caught up on laundry and did some grocery shopping.

I've been loving our weekends. We have had such a nice balance of friends and family visiting and still enough time to spend with just the four of us together. I feel happy and blessed even with feeling physically out of sorts but I do believe I'm getting better. I have a neurology appointment on Friday that I'm dreading and looking forward to at the same time. Maybe someone can make sense of all of the weirdness and I can go back to focusing on my family, my friends and my little business.

My good girls

Royce has limited time off and I've had a slew of doctor's appointments over the past couple weeks so I've had no choice but to bring the littles with me. The girls have been SO good! Quiet and sitting patiently. They are very interested in what's going on and ask the doctor a lot of questions.
Today when we pulled into the parking ramp of the clinic Rasa looked at me concerned and said, "Momma, are you sick?". I said well I'm not feeling good but I'll be ok. She smiled and hugged me, what a sweetheart.

Bi-weekly play date = fun!

Today we made the trek across town to play with Jimmy and have lunch. We've committed to bi-weekly play dates and we're swapping houses so it really is working out nicely! The girls had a blast, loved playing with Jimmy's toys and of course Jimmy himself. I still can't get over what a great match personality wise the three are. Jill and I enjoyed catching up and we had a great lunch!

You would think two photographers would perhaps pull a camera out at lease once but nope, no pictures today....or last time either! We'll get better, I promise :)

Weekend Fun!

Our family had such a wonderful weekend!

Two of my best friends came over Friday night for a little housewarming dinner and bonfire. It was lovely and it made our new place feel like home having them here. Jess lives in Grand Marais so I only see her a handful of times a year. I love spending time with her and Amy. They're my girls! Lately I've been noticing how blessed (huge understatement) I am to have such an amazing group of women in my life! All of my girlfriends are exceptional, every one of them, and for some reason they seem to like me ;)

I've been trying to feel better with this vertigo head pressure thing I've been dealing with so I had to lay low this weekend and give myself a break. Saturday was a beautiful day and it got up to 80 degrees so we hung around the yard, raked up some leaves, got lots of sun and even played in the water (in MARCH!).

Sunday our friends Karley and Patrick came over with their littles for a play date. The girls have been missing Gabby and it was fun for them to play and have fun. Seeing the three of them together always makes me smile, they are a little bit of trouble, that's for sure! They used to live next door and we really miss seeing them everyday but it's so cool how when you move away from neighbors you end up with great friends even still. We are planning an easter egg hunt with our families next weekend and we're all really looking forward to it!

Yesterday afternoon we walked our new neighborhood, found a great playground and lived outside for every second of sunlight we had. On our walk over to the park we passed a house that had the exact same wagon in the yard and there stood two little adorable boys around the same age as the girls. The girls both smiled and waved and the boys stared at them for a second and then both waved and smiled back lol! If that isnt a preview of teenage years!

This summer is going to be fantastic!

Adia saying to me, "Mommy, you're really naughty". I think she might hear me say that more times than not to her!

Listen, listen....winters gone. Finches whistle, "here's the sun!"

The title is a excerpt from the book "Listen, Listen" by Philis Gershator & Alison Jay. It's wonderful! The art is beautiful and the poetry is catchy and fun. A great book that details the change in seasons. We love it and it never gets old.

I had the "privilege" of bringing the girls to the clinic with me today (still sick ugh!) and after had to pick up a few things. The girls were great and sat quietly, I love that about them! The girls were talking to each other while we were waiting for my doctor about how this "lady doctor is going to make our mama feel better". So sweet. She didn't make me feel better but hopefully will lol!

It felt like such a shame to have to spend most of the day in the car and inside so we skipped naps to play. It was a beautiful warm sunny day! It's just the taste of summer we all need here in Minnesota to remind us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Even with such a mild winter we are all itching for spring! At 7 pm I'm a little regretful they didn't get a nap.....especially Adia who tends to get hard to manage when she's tired! She's terrorizing everyone in the house at this very moment. Oh well, early bedtime (fingers crossed!).

Think she's over having her photo taken?? The puppy hat makes another warm weather day appearance. She will never let that thing go.

Goodbye!

the things they say...

Tonight while reading "who do you love"

Royce: I love you Adia and Rasa

Adia: I love you papa. Papa, Papa, Happy Valentine's Day!!

Royce: Oh thank you, Adia

Adia: Now say Happy Valentine's Day to me, Papa

Royce: Happy Valentine's Day

Adia: Oh thank you!

_____________________

I don't recall the context but somehow Royce called Rasa a princess

Rasa: I'M NOT A PRINCESS!

Royce: Yes you are, you're my princess

Rasa: NO I'm NOT!

Me (knowing Rasa hates being called a princess): No, Rasa's not a princess, she's a big girl

Rasa (shouting at Royce with a stern look): I am a big girl! Big girls take nappy's and pee on the potty and brush their teeth!!!

Poor Rasa Bea!

Minutes after posting yesterday's entry Rasa was chasing Adia down the front walk and as she darted up the three front stairs she slipped and hit her chin! Royce heard a thud and then Rasa screaming so hard she stopped making noise. At first we thought she just bit through her tongue (ouch!) but after she lifted her head from his shoulder and we saw the blood spot we realized she split her chin open. Immediately looking at it I said she needs stitches. We decided to wait a few minutes to recheck so Adia and I ran up to CVS to pick up some antiseptic spray and some popsicles (for her poor tongue!). Later we went back and forth about bringing her to Children's Hospital but couldn't decide so I called the nurse. She told me to bring her for stitches if we were worried about the scar and also because they help the wound heal better.

Royce and I were on the fence. We didn't want her to have to go through the trauma but I was worried about the scar. I called my Sister-In-Law who just finished the pediatric nursing program and she gave me the info I needed to decide against it. We opted instead to do a butterfly stitch and liquid bandaid. Royce did a great job getting the split closed up so the scar shouldn't be much worse than if she would have had stitches.

If Rasa is mad about that scar (which matches one Mommy has) she has to blame her Daddy who promised to take full responsibility :)

She's ok today. Her tongue is bruised and her chin is sore but she didn't have to deal with the trauma of a saturday night in the ER.

Mr. Mom

It's 6 pm and 64 degrees out still, what a beautiful sunny day!

I've been sick (double ear infection on top of a sinus infection, what luck) so Royce is on Momma and Papa duty this weekend. He had them out the entire day! I had to come out and snap a few pics of them in the yard and get a reminder of what 60 degrees actually feels like.

Royce is a big kid all gaga over wanting to burn the down branches in the yard. The girls were excited to see things they used to have on our patio in the townhouse, now pulled out into the yard. Royce took the girls for a couple walks, in the wagon and the stroller. They just finished eating and are back outside trying to savor every last minute of daylight. Good for them!

the things they say...

Rasa: I like the baby in toy story. No, it's not a baby. I don't know what it is. Maybe Papa will know.

Me: Oh, maybe Papa will know, huh.

Rasa: Yeah, Papa knows everything. My Daddy's at work. My Papa goes to work everyday but I don't go to work cuz I'm a little girl.
I'm a big girl.

Adia: Momma you have boobies

Me: Yep and so do you, everyone has boobies.

Adia: But my boobies don't have milk. Momma your boobies don't have any milk anymore.

Me: No you won't have milk until you are very old and have babies.

Adia: I don't have milk because I'm a little girl.

friends....

Being in a new area away from the convenience of cousins, family and established community is different for us but I'm determined to build a new community here and I'm patient too, knowing it takes a little time and some skillful planning :)

Having a new place gives us a reason to have lots of company and having a steady stream of guests only helps to build the girls comfort with company, sharing their toys and meeting new people.

We had a playdate today with a lovely friend of mine I made "back in the day". She was one of a group of us who were all living the city life in Minneapolis, working at a sweet little family owned professional photo processing and imaging business right in the heart of the city. We were all between 18 and 21 and as close as family. The older managers were like surrogate parents to us wild children. It was a BLAST and lifelong friendships were made. Best of times, indeed. She came for a visit today with her sweet and smart little two year old and we haven't seen each other in years! It was wonderful. The girls LOVED Jimmy and he seemed to have a lot of fun with them. The three of them are quiet kids for the most part and personality wise a very nice fit. Jill and I had many adventures together when we were young and later attended each others weddings and kept in touch over the years. We are now both work at home momma's with passions for natural and attachment parenting.

Friendship is a form a magic that picks you up when you are low, builds your spirit and esteem and transcends you not only back to memories of great times but ahead with the confidence you'll be there in the future together too. Friendship connects the threads that make you both different and similar and works to make you a better person through the different perspectives of someone you care about. I deeply value you, my friends, and the relationships we've nurtured. As a Mother of girls I feel great knowing that Rasa and Adia will learn by seeing my relationships the importance and value in having and being a good friend.

What a great day.

There once was a girl who had a little curl....

So the nursery rhyme goes like this:

There once was a girl who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good she was very, very good
And when she was bad, she was horrid

Yep. My Mom used to say that to me in the most affectionate way!

Adia told me today to eat her poop. She said it's pink and really yummy. I told her that is disgusting and I certainly would not ever eat her poo. She giggled.

Everyday Things

First Movie!

I brought Rasa and Adia to the opening of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax this morning. The theatre down the street from us had a 10:50 am showing so it was perfect. Royce and I have been hyping up the movie to them since we found out it was going to be released. They were excited to see a movie in the theatre. I was worried they would be afraid of the dark or bothered by the loudness of sound but they weren't.
We got popcorn and fruit snacks and they made it almost all the way through (great movie!). Rasa would have stayed until the end but Adia was getting wiggly and wanted to go home.
It was fun, we missed having Royce there but our next couple of weekends are so busy I didn't want to miss out on the chance to see it in the theatre and since the girls are huge Dr. Seuss fans it seemed like the perfect first movie for them :)

The things they say...

This morning Royce was leaving for work.

Rasa: Where WE going, Momma?

Me: Ah I don't know, where are we going?

Rasa: Where we going??

Me looking at Royce smirking: We're going to hell in a hand basket, what do you think about that?

Rasa: I want to go there. I want to go there now!

Last night after I brushed the girls teeth I spotted some new molars in both of their mouths. I got excited and made it a big deal that they were growing new teeth, talking about how we're going to the dentist and how much fun it's going to be. They were jumping up and down excited to show Royce their new teeth.

Adia: Papa! Papa! I got new teeth!!

Royce: Oh wow look at all of those teeth!

Adia: I got new teeth from the grocery store and put them in my mouth!
